Paul's Letter to the Romans

SMB2709HS  L0101 · Cancelled on 2010/03/04
Offered in Summer 2011  ·  Previously offered in Summer 2007 · Toronto (St. George Campus) Site

This course will provide an opportunity to read Paul's letter to the Romans in its social setting.  Once considered Paul's theological treatise, the letter is more recently understood to address the specific problems of the Christian communities in Rome.  We will consider the theological themes and practical instruction of the letter in the context of Judean-Gentile relations, levels of social status, and the popular culture of these first Christians in Rome in order to test how the letter's theology was transformative of every day realities.
