The course will provide the student with an historical, theological and practical overview of the role of courageous, pastoral and prophetic preaching. Particular attention will be given to the place of preaching in our ever-changing Canadian culture and will explore the challenges, joys and pitfalls of preparing a sermon in parish settings and beyond. A plethora of sources will be drawn upon to help the student develop a confidence in the homiletical task as well as a renewed commitment to maintaining the independence of the preacher of the Gospel in the face of worldly influences. Teaching methods: Lectures, tutorials. Means of evaluation: Class participation, sermon presentation, theological statement, research paper.
