Integration for Ministry I

Through the development of the skill of theological reflection, the participants learn to reflect on their personal and ministerial or work experiences to discern the call of transformation and integration in the midst of the Christian tradition and world realities. This group process takes place in a peer faith setting. Regular attendance required. An overnight retreat is scheduled at the end of the course. Two short integration papers. Pass/Fail course for BD students.

Contemplating God: Classics of the Christian Contemplative Tradition

This course will focus on the primary texts of the Christian contemplative tradition beginning with the gospels and the desert fathers and mothers, proceeding through the monastic and mystical traditions of the western and eastern church, the Reformation and following, and contemporary writers of the 20th and 21st centuries. The course will include reading selected primary texts, as well as commitment by student to some personal contemplative spiritual practice during the time of the course. Students are recommended to have taken WYP2636H or have an established practice of Christian contemplative prayer (centering prayer, Christian mediation, etc.).

Exploration in historical perspective of major themes in the Catholic Church's social doctrine by reading of magisterial documents in seminars. Relationship of ecclesiology and justice issues, and to crisis in contemporary Catholic social thought. Essay, participation, final exam.

Study of Foundational pastoral, methodological, theological dynamics for authentic Catholic education. Focus on education's role to inform, form and transform. Conversion in the context of a global, technological in dialogue with Vatican II and significant post-Conciliar documents. Lectures, seminar, three (3) short papers or one synthesis paper.
