Programs

The TST consortium offers a range of academic and professional degrees. All degree programs are post-baccalaureate, and are conferred conjointly by the University of Toronto and a TST member college.

Graduate Degree Programs

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Theological Studies

The PhD in Theological Studies program is intended to provide students with the analytical skills and knowledge base that will enable them to carry out innovative research at the leading edge of their area of specialization.

Doctor of Ministry (DMin)

The Doctor of Ministry program is designed for ministry professionals who desire to enhance their leadership skills and theological imagination through a process of scholarly engagement with a cohort of peers to cultivate effective ministries.

Master of Theology (ThM)

The Master of Theology program is intended for advanced and specialized theological study beyond the basic degree level. Coursework is at the doctoral level, but the ThM is a much shorter program than the PhD program, and it does not require full-time study.

Master of Arts (MA) in Theological Study

The Master of Arts in Theological Studies is a full-time research master's program intended to provide students with the analytical skills, methodological rigour, and knowledge base to carry out research at the leading edge of their area(s) of specialization.

Basic Degree Programs

TST's seven member colleges offer several basic master's degrees in theology which provide students with an introduction to theological study as well as preparation for professional ministry. Basic degree programs are first theological degrees taught at the post-baccalaureate level.

  • Master of Divinity (MDiv)
  • Master of Theological Studies (MTS)
  • Master of Religious Education (MRE)
  • Master of Pastoral Studies (MPS) / Certificate in Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy (SCP)
  • Master of Arts in Ministry and Spirituality (MAMS)
  • Master of Sacred Music (MSMus)

Post-Baccalaureate Certificates

Two conjoint certificates are offered:

  • Certificate in Theological Studies (CTS) 
    Provides a general university-level foundation in Christian studies and also an academic background for those interested in applying to the Master of Arts in Theological Studies program.
  • Certificate in Theology and Interreligious Engagement (CTIE)
    Provides a general university-level foundation in theological and practice-based approaches to religious pluralism and interreligious engagement.
