Graduate Degree Programs
TST's graduate degree programs are offered by six of the seven member colleges in the TST consortium, with St. Augustine’s Seminary offering basic degree programs only.
All graduate degrees are conferred conjointly by a TST member college and the University of Toronto, and all graduate degree programs are reviewed cyclically under the terms of the University of Toronto Quality Assurance Process (UTQAP), which is consistent with the Quality Assurance Framework of the Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance.
TST's seven member colleges are also members of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) of the United States and Canada and all degree programs offered at TST are fully accredited by ATS.
Graduate degree programs are administered by TST’s Graduate Centre for Theological Studies (GCTS) which is located in the TST building. Applications to the four conjoint graduate degree programs are submitted to the GCTS.
See the program descriptions below for more information, admissions requirements and how to apply.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Theological Studies
The PhD in Theological Studies program is intended to provide students with the analytical skills and knowledge base that will enable them to carry out innovative research at the leading edge of their area of specialization. The program distinguishes itself by its attention to methodological rigour within an interdisciplinary framework, and by the unique ecumenical context provided by TST.
Doctor of Ministry (DMin)
The Doctor of Ministry program is designed for ministry professionals who desire to enhance their leadership skills and theological imagination. While remaining fully immersed in their own ministry context, students are invited into a process of scholarly community engagement with a cohort of peers in order to cultivate effective ministries in a changing world.
Master of Theology (ThM)
The Master of Theology program is intended for advanced and specialized theological study beyond the basic degree level. Coursework is at the doctoral level, but the ThM is a much shorter program than the PhD program, and it does not require full-time study.
Master of Arts (MA) in Theological Studies
The Master of Arts in Theological Studies is a full-time research master's program intended to provide students with the analytical skills, methodological rigour, and knowledge base that will enable them to carry out research at the leading edge of their area(s) of specialization.
